Fridays at Dreamland: outdoor cinema to return and ‘Get Your Own Back Live’ is announced for the third Dreamland Variety Show

  • The amusement park will screen three films in August in its iconic outdoor setting, with the first film to be chosen by the public and a special anniversary showing of Titanic.
  • Dave Benson Phillips will be bringing the gunge as he headlines the third Dreamland Variety Show with a live version of Get Your Own Back.

27 June 2018

Dreamland Margate is the place to be day and night, as the amusement park today reveals exciting plans for Friday evenings this summer.

The park will open every Friday evening from 27 July until 31 August. Entertainment will alternate between the Dreamland Variety Show; a brand-new outdoor event for 2018 inspired by classic Saturday night TV shows and combining popular culture, gameshows and cabaret, and the Dreamland Film Club; outdoor cinema screened in the centre of the amusement park.

Fridays at Dreamland

27 July – Dreamland Variety Show

The first ever edition of the Dreamland Variety Show sees an all-female line-up of entertainers perform on the Scenic Stage including comedian Jayde Adams, beat boxer Grace Savage, a DJ set from BBC 6 Music’s Gemma Cairney, a headline set from Sweet Female Attitude, dance troupes, mass karaoke and hula-hoopers.

3 August – Dreamland Film Club: Public Vote

The public will decide the first film to be screened at Dreamland. With a poll set to start on Dreamland’s Facebook page from 5pm on 27th June, ‘Everybody’s Free’ to choose between Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet and two 80s favourites; the Tom Hanks classic Big, and fantasy adventure Legend starring Tom Cruise. Cast your vote here before 5pm on 11th July.

10 August – Dreamland Variety Show
Fashion guru Gok Wan will DJ at the rainbow-themed second edition of the Dreamland Variety Show, which kick-starts the Margate Pride weekend. He will be joined by comedian Jack Rooke, Sink The Pink drag queens, drag king Benjamin Butch, DJs, singers, lip-synchers, rainbow stilt walkers and there will be even more mass karaoke!

17 August – Dreamland Film Club: The Jungle Book (2016)

Organised in partnership with Turner Contemporary’s Animals & Us exhibition, the live action version of Rudyard Kipling’s classic, The Jungle Book, is revived in this Disney re-work of the animated film.

24 August – Dreamland Variety Show

Prepare for gunge as the final Dreamland Variety Show will be headlined by none other than Dave Benson Phillips, who will bring a live edition of Get Your Own Back to the park. There will also be DJs - including a set from Amber Butchart, balloon fun with Miss Ballooniverse, performance art, poetry and much, much more – all with a silver and sequin theme! As always, dressing up is encouraged, with prizes for the best and worst dressed.

31 August – Dreamland Film Club: Titanic

A box office smash and marking twenty years since the film’s UK release, follow the romantic tale of Rose and Jack on the ‘unsinkable’ ship as the park’s final film screening will be Titanic.

Tickets for the events start from £5 and are available via dreamland.co.uk/events.

Rebecca Ellis, Senior Creative Producer at Dreamland Margate said: “Following the huge popularity of last year’s outdoor cinema screenings at Dreamland, we couldn’t wait to line-up some brilliant films for 2018. We’re particularly looking forward to finding out the result of the public vote for the first screening! There’s something fun happening every Friday at the park this summer, with a whole host of eclectic entertainment for all ages.”
