The UK’s oldest wooden rollercoaster, Dreamland Margate’s grade II* listed Scenic Railway, will take a short break from operation from 24th – 28th July.

This scheduled maintenance sees specialist splicers replace a section of the rope on one of the ride’s lift hills – a vital part of the Scenic Railway’s mechanism. This work will provide added interest for visitors to the park, who will be able to watch professional craftsmen executing this traditional process.

During this period, Dreamland is offering anyone who buys an unlimited ride wristband (either in advance or on the day) one of the park’s newly launched Dream Passes preloaded to the value of £5. Similar to a gift card, the Dream Pass can be spent on the fantastic food and drink on offer throughout Dreamland – with the exception of concessions. It can also be re-charged for use in the future.

Steven Mitchell, Interim CEO at Dreamland Margate, said:
“We have had a fantastic response to Dreamland since we re-opened the park on 26th May and visitors have, as ever, been enchanted by the Scenic Railway.

When the ride was restored, we returned to its heritage rope system - which is not like the systems used by rollercoasters built today. This means a specialist level of service is required to maintain the ride. We are working with the best in the industry to ensure reliable and consistent running of the ride for visitors through the rest of the summer and beyond – and working with the best means undertaking work when they are available.”

In addition to the vintage rides at Dreamland there is a whole host of free entertainment to enjoy every day throughout the summer holidays, including magic, circus, music and more. Ticketed attractions include the Messham’s Wall Of Death (22nd July to 6th August) and The World’s Biggest Bouncy Castle (12th August to 26th August).
