About Dreamland

Dreamland Margate is considered to be the oldest-surviving amusement park in Great Britain: the site of Dreamland (as it was re-named in 1920) dates back to the British railway boom and the early 1870s when, in its original form, the ‘Hall by the Sea’ was operated by the circus tycoon,‘Lord’ George Sanger.

Following a £25 million investment from Arrowgrass Capital Parners, Dreamland reopened in May 2017. The park has been re-landscaped and has meticulously restored vintage rides, world-class entertainmentspaces, modern interactive art installations, contemporary street food, eclectic bars and live entertainment, with a backdrop of Margate beach.

It is less than 90 minutes from London by train with Margate Station only a 5-minute walk away. 49 Marine Terrace, Margate, Kent, CT9 1XJ.

An ice rink will come to Margate as The Frosted Fairground at Dreamland returns for a third year

  • A large real ice rink will be at the amusement park throughout the Christmas period.
  • There will be a special appearance by favourite Christmas characters The Snowman™ and The Snowdog.
  • The Frosted Fairground will have a grotto experience, live music and a special seasonal food and drink offering.

Dreamland is set to become the number one destination for Christmas in Kent as it transforms into The Frosted Fairground. Newly re-landscaped and with a whole host of new features in 2017, this is the first edition of The Frosted Fairground since the park’s redevelopment. The amusement park will open on the first two weekends in December, then every day from 16th December until January 3rd 2018 (closed on Christmas Day).

Ice Skating
Open every day from 1st December to 3rd January (except Christmas Day), this 450 metre square rink will have room for 150 people to skate at one time. The winter weather won’t affect the fun as the rink is undercover, with a clear roof and walls for taking in the sights at the winter-themed amusement park.

The Snowman and The Snowdog
It’s the most wonderful time of the year and December 21st sees a special appearance from favourite characters, The Snowman and The Snowdog, at the amusement park. Arrive early to avoid disappointment and don’t forget to bring your camera!

Father Christmas’ Grotto Experience
A magical experience awaits families and believers visiting the grotto at Dreamland. With elves, crafts and a sing-along with Father Christmas himself all topped off with a gift for each child.

Jack and Jackie Frost
Compering the stage throughout the Christmas period will be Jack and Jackie Frost. Making sure you don’t miss so much as a snowflake, they will be hosting sing-a-longs, reporting on the likelihood of a white Christmas, playing Christmas number ones at 1pm and even having a light switch on every day.

Rebecca Ellis, Director of Events and Programming at Dreamland Margate, said:
“It’s been a very exciting year at Dreamland and ending it by providing an amazing festive experience at the park is really important to us. We can’t wait to have an ice rink in Margate and to once again draw people to the town outside of the summer season. Locals don’t need to travel to London or elsewhere to get that magical Christmas feeling, they will find it at Dreamland!”

There’s a plentiful line-up of attractions and events set for the park, with seasonal food and drink and lots more music and entertainment still to be announced, The Frosted Fairground is the perfect place to get that festive feeling!

Screamland will take you on a journey filled with fire and brimstone and initiate you into The Brotherhood.

Legend says that once he lures his pray into his wacky world, they will become lost forever! Locals have been known to disappear from the Margate area, never to be seen again. People say they wander haunted and lost within his ‘Jack in the Box’. Who is Crank Jack and where does he hide? Will you come face to face with him and find yourself trapped in his twisted maze? Or will you be the first to survive?

Step into the movies as you take the starring role in a science fiction screamer! Collect your ticket for Horrorwood Picture House and pass through the silver screen. Become part of the action in an alien adventure as the final cut takes on a whole new dimension in its last ever show. Have you got what it takes to be part of this alarming alien encounter?

Dead and Breakfast: Under New Management – Scare factor 4/5
Last year, Fag Ash Lil moved her murderous boyfriend, Jack Mudget, into her decrepit seaside hotel. One year on and all is not sweet in paradise. Margate’s worst ever accommodation is under new management – but something sinister still lies within...where is Lil? Sharpen your senses and check into the Dead and Breakfast...

Festino’s Festival of Freaks – Scare factor 4/5
Infamous showman Alonzo Festino has fallen on hard times. Killer clowns have overrun his fun house and he has been forced to hit the road - travelling from town to town with his band of freaks and the twisted ringmaster is back at Screamland! Enter the freak show and come face to face with your worst nightmares. Leaving the freak show is not so easy, so prepare to be disturbed – this one is guaranteed to wipe the smile off your face!
