POW! Thanet is back for 2017!
An exciting group of more than 40 artists, performers, theatre directors and arts managers are collaborating to organise a 4 day series of events in Margate, Ramsgate and Broadstairs.
The festival will again focus on the role of women and girls in the world today, with events including talks, workshops, debates, yoga and mindfulness sessions, interactive performances, music, poetry readings, exhibitions and events for young people.
Dreamland is host to a number of POW! Events, which ends with the finale celebration party! Join in with our events below to celebrate all things POW!
Pie Factory Music Young Female Performers Programme - 11th March | 2pm | £2
Hosted by Brigitte Aphrodite and Steph Dickinson, this is an unforgettable musical experience open to talented young female performers aged 14-25. We’re offering a free mentor workshop where you’ll get the opportunity to work alongside seasoned performers who will share a wealth of knowledge about the music industry, in addition to technical skills and song writing tips.
MC Amber Butchardt Presents Who Wears The Trousers: Women, Power, Fashion - 11th March | 4pm | £2
Throughout history, dress has symbolised wealth and status and has been used as a tool to uphold systems of power. This talk explores how women - traditionally granted less power than men - have conceptualised and signified power through dress, from Joan of Arc to Hillary Clinton.
Where Are We Now? - 11th March | 5pm | Free, donation welcome
We’re back. This is where we are now. Support the coming together of an intergenerational reminiscence project with Ageless Thanet mapping aspirations and achievements. Where Are We Now? is a response to the Hannah and Hanna friendship plays written by John Retallack , produced by UK Arts International and Theatre Royal Margate.

The winners of the POW Choreography Championship will kick off this programme, joined by Myself Dance and another opportunity for local dancers and breakers to come together in “The People’s Battle”. DJ Dbo and MC Sun Sun, will open the floor to dancers 6yrs + who want to show what they can do.
YP Programme Finale Party - 11th March | 7:30pm | Free, donation welcome
Join us for a colourful finale in celebration of the many wonderful events throughout POW! 2017. We’ve got a jam-packed programme including performances from local artists Kub and Brigitte Aphrodite, coding installations, poetry, Hip Hop Dance, and debut performances from the Pie Factory Music Young Female Performers Programme. Hosted by Brigitte Aphrodite and Amber Butchart you’re in for a treat as we celebrate all things POW!
