Statement Of Public Safety For Disabled People

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors. 


Dreamland welcomes guests with disabilities, together with their carers. We aim to provide clear and accurate information to help guests with disabilities plan and enjoy their visit to our Pleasure Park and indoor spaces.

The majority of our facilities are accessible to our disabled guests. A summary of the facilities we offer are as follows:

·      Hearing loops at the Welcome hub, Roller Disco and Octopus Garden

·      Accessible toilets

·      Fast Track Tickets for disabled guests and up to 4 members of your party for the Big Wheel and Scenic Railway only

·      Wheelchair hire

·      Flat paths and paved surfaces

·      Admittance allowed for registered and trained assistance dogs

Please note the provision of admission discounts and special access facilities is entirely at the discretion of Dreamland.

We want you to have a great time during your visit to Dreamland and will do all within our power to ensure a safe and pleasurable visit as your safety is crucial to us.  However, certain rides & attractions in our park can be physically demanding and vigorous so please ensure you read our safety document for further details to understand more about any restrictions that apply.

We are committed to creating a safe environment to ensure the health, safety & welfare of all staff and visitors. We therefore reserve the right to refuse admission to certain rides or attractions should we feel there is a danger to a particular individual or individuals for whatever reason.

In fulfilling this commitment we will seek through competence, co-operation and co-ordination with staff and visitors to provide and maintain a safe and healthy working environment by meeting legislative standards and developing acceptable working practices. 

We have been advised by the Health & Safety Executive that refusal on the grounds of health and safety does not constitute discrimination. We hope that you understand and accept the decisions made are in the interest of the safety of all our guests.

At Dreamland we work closely with consultants to continuously improve the accessibility of our park, attractions and facilities for all of our visitors.

·      Trains arrive and depart frequently from Margate to stations all over Kent and London.

·      Dreamland is a 0.2-mile walk from the train station. Once you have left the train station building turn right and follow the path towards Margate’s clock tower and Dreamland will be on your right hand side. 

·      Taxis are available at the station, contact details for accessible taxis which can be pre-booked are below. 


There are several bus stops nearby, outside Dreamland car park and on the seafront.

Dreamland car park entrance

·      Belgrave Road – Eton Hill (Stop S) for buses 8, 8X, 34, 945 which run through Westwood cross. This bus stop has a shelter and seating.

·      Belgrave Road – Eton Hill (Stop R) for buses 34, 989. This bus stop does not have any shelter or seating unlike the ones on seafront, by the Mechanical Elephant pub (3-minute walk).

On the seafront

·      Marine Terrace (Stop A) for buses 8, 8A, 8X, 32, 32A, 33, 34, 34A, 35, 36, 936, 945, 989

·      Marine Terrace (Stop C) for buses 8, 8A, 8X, 33, 34, 34A, 35, 36, 932, 989. Marine Terrace (Stop D) for buses 32, 32A, 36.

At Margate train station

·      There is a bus stop with shelter and seating located outside Margate train station, for bus number 32A which goes to Margate High street and Dane Valley. These buses run at various times but have approximately 3 buses running every hour.

There is a National Express coach stop on the seafront, outside the Mechanical Elephant pub for coaches to and from London at various times of the day.

There is a taxi rank directly outside the train station with taxis on standby waiting for passengers.

Drop off point

·      The nearest drop off point by car is located outside the Scenic entrance on the Dreamland car park

·      Coaches can drop guests off at the bus stop located on Belgrave Road (Postcode CT9 1XJ).  There are no dropped kerbs.


·      The Dreamland car park, operated by Thanet District Council, offers a limited number of accessible car parking spaces for guests with a Blue Badge. Spaces are located 40 feet from the main access, via the Scenic entrance, to the Pleasure Park.

·      Parking is charged per car. Please follow the relevant signposts.


Dreamland has 2 main entrances:

·      An entrance via Hall by the Sea road, which is just off the A28 (Canterbury Road) 

·      An entrance via the Dreamland car park, underneath the Scenic Railway. 

Both entrances have flat, step free surfaces.

Scenic Entrance accessible from Dreamland Car Park

·      There is a hearing loop at the Info Desk, situated inside the Welcome hub adjacent to the Admissions areas. The welcome Hub is an indoor space.

·      Access to the Welcome Hub is a level entry with double doors at both access points, the entire hub is on one level.

·      There is loud music in the Roller Disco area. 

·      The lighting around the Info Desk comprises of 2 neon “INFO” signs and fluorescent bulbs covering the silver metallic structure.

·      entry fee and are eligible to one free carer if they are unable to manage independently. Any additional members of the party will pay full price. 

·      Every Ride has individual Safety Restrictions which might restrict people with certain disabilities from using some of our rides. To make memorable experiences for all of our guests, we provide every disabled person with a fast track pass for the Big Wheel and the Scenic Railway to jump the queue. Additionally we give up to 4 members of your party one fast track ticket each with the same rides so you can enjoy your day at Dreamland together. Please make sure you read the Health & Safety restrictions for our rides to make your decision on which rides to use. Dreamland Management cannot be held responsible for any damage/injury caused by using a ride not suitable to individual disabilities.

·      To receive your Fast Track Tickets, please report to the Welcome Hub in the indoor area of Dreamland.

Please note that proof of disability will be requested, which may include:

·      Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance award letter (dated within the last 6 months) 

·      Personal Independence Payment letter (dated within the last 6 months)

·      A current and valid Blue Badge

·      Letter from GP or consultant (dated within the last 6 months) confirming the need for a full time carer. This does not need to be a letter of diagnosis  

For safety reasons, the number of guests with disabilities riding at any one time may be limited. Groups may be divided and there could be a wait before riding.


To qualify for the free carer pass, carers will need to be accompanied by the individual that requires their care at all times whilst on site. You will also need to verify at the point of purchase that the individual requires a carer at all times for their own safety and wellbeing. If an individual is safe to ride unaccompanied, then they will not qualify for a free carer. 

Guests with a disability pay the standard entry fee and are eligible for up to two free carers if they are unable to manage independently. Any additional members of the party will pay full price. 


·      The surface ground around the park varies. There is a gradient of about 1:12, which is approximately 15 metres long, where manual wheelchair users may need assistance.

·      There are no restrictions on wheelchair users within the park, however restrictions on rides are in place. Please see ride specific restrictions for further information. 

·      As you enter through “Hall by the Sea” entrance, there are automatic doors with a level polished tile-flooring going all the way through the Emporium towards the arcade area. 

·      Entering via the car park side entrance, there is block paving all around the courtyard and past the turnstiles. 

·      Lighting around the park varies. Around the courtyard and Admissions area there is a lot of fluorescent lighting from signage. On the big wheel, there are 4 flood lights that light up all-around that area and the lights from the rides provide sufficient lighting to walk round the park at night.

·      Music is played in various locations around the park and on the majority of the rides. At the entrance of the park, music is played over the loud speakers and there is music on the Scenic Stage in the Food court.

·      There is plenty of seating available all around the park from the picnic tables in the Food court, benches in the designated smoking areas to the deckchairs that are scattered across the park. 

·      There are plenty of food, beverage and retail outlets across the park including our “Dreambox” which is a small version of our main Emporium (Hall by the Sea entrance). The main information points around the park are the Info Desk in the Welcome hub, ticket booths and the Dreambox by the Food court. 



The Food court is outdoors, step free with brick paving and there are no doors to access it. All areas are staffed and further assistance will be provided when required.

Most tables are positioned and cannot be moved, they have fixed benches. However some additional wooden benches and tables are available which can be moved.

Dietary Requirements

Our restaurants serve a wide range of top quality cuisine and snacks. We do offer a variety of product for different dietary needs but encourage guests with severe allergies to cater for their needs. Please advise a member of staff that you have to bring food on park, as we make an exception from our general park rule for guests with special dietary needs.

Five accessible toilets are located around the park.

Food Court Accessible Toilet Information:-

·      Height of the toilet – 480mm

·      Measurement of transfer space 800mm

·      Height of sink 760mm

·      Lever taps are on the sinks

·      There is a clear space under sink, no pedestal

·      Emergency cord is in place

·      The flooring is Lino

·      Lights are fluorescent

·      There is no background music playing

Roller Disco Accessible Toilet Information:-

·      There is a slight lip into the toilet area

·      Door width – 900mm

·      Width and depth of room 1475mm (w)/2230mm (d)

·      Right to left transfer 

·      Height of the toilet – 470mm

·      Measurement of transfer space 830mm

·      Height of sink 700mm

·      Lever taps are on the sinks

·      There is a clear space under sink, no pedestal

·      Emergency cord is in place

·      The flooring is Lino

·      Lights are fluorescent

·      There is background music playing

Rear of the Park Accessible Toilet Information:-

·      There is a ramp accessing the toilet with a door opening outwards

·      Door width – 1000mm

·      Width and depth of room 1480mm (w)/3130mm (d)

·      Right to left transfer 

·      Height of the toilet – 470mm

·      Measurement of transfer space 820mm

·      Height of sink 720mm

·      Lever taps are on the sinks

·      There is a clear space under sink, no pedestal

·      The flooring is Lino

·      Lights are fluorescent

·      There is no background music playing


There are also additional disabled toilets in the Octopus’s Garden

A Changing places WC is due to be introduced in Phase 2 of the development.


Assistance Dogs


·      Only assistance Dogs are allowed onto Dreamland site but for safety reasons are not allowed in the queue lanes or on the rides. 

·      A member of your party must remain with your dog at all times.

·      Water bowls are provided for dogs.

·      We kindly ask our guests to clean up after their dogs, or ask for assistance to do so.


Staff training

·      Most of our team members have received disability awareness training, which includes understanding of the disability discrimination act and disability etiquette.

Guide for guests with specific needs

·      Our specific Ride Restrictions are available in the Welcome Hub for everyone to view and determine which rides are suitable for your individual needs and abilities. 

First Aid

·      Located by the site entrance, we are able to assist with all first aid requirements and relay with the relevant emergency services for additional needs. There is refrigeration available for medicines if required. 

·      NOTE that our First aid staff are not trained or qualified to administer or dispense any medicines. 

·      As well as the dedicated First aid staff, there are a number of park staff qualified to assist in emergencies.
