Gok Wan to DJ at Dreamland as the amusement park announces the line-up for its second Variety Show

  • The second Dreamland Variety will be headlined by Gok Wan and have a rainbow theme as the event kick starts the Margate Pride weekend
  • Inspired by classic Saturday night TV shows, each Dreamland Variety will feature family entertainment and performances.
  • The trio of live themed events will take place on the outdoor Scenic Stage across evenings this summer on 27 July, 10 and 24 August.

14 June 2018

Following the announcement of the first ever Variety Show, which is set to take place in July, Dreamland Margate today announces the line-up for the second instalment of the event, which will be on 10 August.

With a headline DJ set from stylist and presenter Gok Wan, the rainbow-themed event will also feature performances from comedian Jack Rooke, Sink The Pink’s dancing drag queens, singer Marie White, drag lip synching champion Grace Shush and Margate Choir - who will lead massaoke fun. Also set to perform are The Rainbow Stilt Walkers and drag king Benjamin Butch. There will be performance art from Pink Suits, music from Lunatraktors and Margate Pride’s very own Amy Zing will be DJing.

Unlike any other variety show, Dreamland Variety will combine popular culture, inspiration from nostalgic Saturday night TV gameshows and cabaret for the ultimate mix of guilty pleasures and performance. Each event will be themed and feature a spectacular line-up of entertainment; with performance artists, comedy, musicians, poets, dancers, circus, interactive activities and more!

Margate Pride, which takes place on the next day on 11 August, is the charity partner for the second Dreamland Variety Show and will benefit from fundraising at the event. All guests are invited to join in with the rainbow theme at the Variety, with prizes for the best and worst dressed.

Dreamland’s food court will be transformed with cabaret seating for the shows. Tickets are priced from £5 for general standing admission. Unreserved cabaret seated tickets are priced at £25 and include a drink voucher, meal voucher, free entry to the park during the day and an unlimited ride wristband. Discounts apply for Dreamland members who will have access to limited priority seating. Tickets are available via dreamland.co.uk.

Jess Du Preez, Event Producer at Dreamland said: “Dreamland’s Variety Show is the first event of its kind at the park and will be a great way to spend Friday evenings in summer! Each show will have a very eclectic line-up and with a whole host of entertainers heading to Dreamland, it’s going to be a lot of fun!”

About Dreamland Variety Show One

Hosted by punk poet, musician, writer, theatre-maker and feminist showgirl Brigitte Aphrodite, the first Dreamland Variety on July 27th will feature an all-female line-up. Acts for the first show include musical headliners, garage duo Sweet Female Attitude – famed for their hit single “Flowers”. They will be joined by ‘Funny Women’ award winner Jayde Adams, 5-piece dance troupe Figs in Wigs, beat boxer Grace Savage, poetry with Jade Anouka, dancing hula-hoopers The Majorettes, a DJ set from BBC Radio 6 Music’s Gemma Cairney, live artists Hunt and Darton and Margate’s Social Singing Choir – who will be leading a massaoke!

Each Dreamland Variety will have a charity partner that benefits from fundraising at the events. The first will be Oasis Domestic Abuse Service in Margate. To support this charity, the first show will have a tropical theme. All guests are invited to dress up, with prizes for the best and worst dressed.
