Dreamland Margate launches its very own variety show

  • Inspired by classic Saturday night TV shows, each Dreamland Variety will feature family entertainment and performances.
  • The trio of live themed variety shows will take place on the outdoor Scenic Stage across evenings this summer, on 27th July, 10th and 24th August.

26th April 2018

Unlike any other variety show, Dreamland Variety will combine popular culture, inspiration from nostalgic Saturday night TV gameshows and cabaret for the ultimate mix of guilty pleasures and performance. Each event will be themed and feature a spectacular line-up of entertainment; with performance artists, comedy, musicians, poets, dancers, circus, interactive activities and more!

Hosted by punk poet, musician, writer, theatre-maker and feminist showgirl Brigitte Aphrodite, the first Dreamland Variety on July 27th will feature an all-female line-up. Acts for the first show include musical headliners, garage duo Sweet Female Attitude – famed for their hit single “Flowers”. They will be joined by ‘Funny Women’ award winner Jayde Adams, 5-piece dance troupe Figs in Wigs, beat boxer Grace Savage, poetry with Jade Anouka, dancing hula-hoopers The Majorettes, a DJ set from BBC Radio 6 Music’s Gemma Cairney, live artists Hunt and Darton and Margate’s Social Singing Choir – who will be leading a massaoke!

Each Dreamland Variety will have a charity partner that benefits from fundraising at the events. The first will be Oasis Domestic Abuse Service in Margate. To support this charity, the first show will have a tropical theme. All guests are invited to dress up, with prizes for the best and worst dressed.

The second variety show on 10th August will have a rainbow theme for Margate Pride, and the final show on 24th August will have a silver theme with charity partner Thanet Volunteer Bureau, who will be fundraising for their Silver Sundays event in October. The event connects older people to where they live through leisure, social, educational and volunteering opportunities. Each Dreamland Variety will be sponsored by the ultimate mobile glitter and braid bar pop-up, Blush + Boho.

Dreamland’s food court will be transformed with cabaret seating for the events. Tickets are priced from £5 for general standing admission. Unreserved cabaret seated tickets are priced at £25 and include a drink voucher, meal voucher, free entry to the park during the day and an unlimited ride wristband. Discounts apply for Dreamland members who will have access to limited priority seating. Tickets are available via dreamland.co.uk.

Jess Du Preez, Event Producer at Dreamland said: “This is the first event of its kind at Dreamland and it’s really exciting to be putting on such an eclectic line-up of entertainment. We are really looking forward to bringing yet more bizarre, all-round family fun to the park, and are proud to be able to support local charities in this way.”
