Dreamland Margate announces its first ever Puppetry Season
As the summer holidays come to an end and the (occasionally) warm weather fades, ideas for family fun may turn to indoor activities, and Dreamland Margate is serving up some of the most original and unique family-focused entertainment with its first ever puppetry season.
An all-new programme of events for all ages to enjoy, a series of four plays, performances and activities will take place at the park on Sundays throughout the autumn. Tickets are available at dreamland.co.uk/events.
In Our Hands – 17th September
Described as “Clever and inventive” by the HHHH British Theatre Guide, In Our Hands by the award-winning Smoking Apples has innovative puppetry, a striking set and an original score that will transport you out to sea, under the ocean and onto the deck of the Catcher’s Fortune along with trawler fisherman, Alf.
Fireside Tales with Granddad – 24th September
Cuddle up around the campfire as Granddad recalls a daring escape from a hungry shark. Tuck into a marshmallow or two as he attempts to make a new set of underpants for a giant. And watch as the shadows between the trees unravel a tale of greedy goblins, grumpy trolls, sneaky princes and a very unusual princess. Exquisite puppets, captivating storytelling, beautiful shadow puppetry combine to create an enchanting show guaranteed to spark the imagination of everyone from 4 -104.
The Girl and the Giraffe – 8th October
One day whilst Girl is playing in her garden, she spots something peculiar on the other side of the fence. Climbing up as high as she can to get a better view, she is surprised when she comes face to face with... Giraffe! Charming puppetry, an enchanting soundscape and beautiful storytelling combine in this sensitive show about wellbeing and friendship, told from a child's perspective.
Puppery and Crafts – 15th October
With their own puppetry show already a firm favourite at Dreamland, join our friends, Teddy and Betty, for an afternoon of arts and crafts. Explore storytelling with Teddy and Betty and even take part in your own puppet making at this drop-in session.
